The Way We Were er det 15. studioalbumet til artisten Barbra Streisand.

Musikkalbumet ble først utgitt i januar 1974 med tittelen The Way We Were, men på grunn av copyright-rettighetene til Ray Stark, som produserte filmen Våre beste år (engelsk: The Way We Were), ble albumet gitt ut på nytt med tittelen Barbra Streisand Featuring the Hit Single The Way We Were and All in Love Is Fair. Tittelen The Way We Were ble fjernet fra coveret, og den nye ble lagt til. Tittelen ble forandret tilbake til The Way We Were, og det opprinnelige coverbildet kom tilbake for den nye utgivelsen i 2002.

Musikkalbumet består av seks sanger som ble spilt inn i 1970 for at album som skulle hete The Singer. Dette albumet ble imidlertid skrinlagt. I 1991 ble to andre låter fra dette albumet («The Singer» og «I Can Do It») utgitt på Streisands samlealbum Just for the Record.... De nye sangene som ble spilt inn for dette albumet, var «The Way We Were», «All in Love Is Fair», «Being at War with Each Other» og «Something So Right».

Albumet nådde toppen av USAs albumliste og solgte til dobbelt platina med to millioner solgte eksemplarer. Det solgte til sølv i Storbritannia.[6]

The Way We Were har solgt tre millioner eksemplarer på verdensbasis.
