The Shakey's Super League (SSL) is a women's volleyball league in the Philippines contested within the collegaite and high school levels.[1] The league is organized by Shakey's Pizza Asia Ventures Inc. (SPAVI) and the Athletic Events and Sports Management Group Inc. (ACES).[2][3]

History

The Shakey's Super League was formally launched on August 16, 2022, at the Shakey's Pizza ASEANA outlet in Parañaque City.[4] This marks the return of Shakey's Pizza in Philippine volleyball since they served as the title sponsor for the Shakey's V-League (now Premier Volleyball League) from 2004 to 2017.[4]

The Shakey's Super League held its first tournament, the 2022 Collegiate Pre-Season Tournament, from September 22 to November 28, 2022.[4] The first tournament marks the return of full preseasons for the UAAP and NCAA teams since they were forced to resort to tune-ups due to disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.[5]

In May 2023, SSL launched the high school-level Girls Volleyball Invitational League (GVIL) with its inaugural edition. It is contested by teams from various associations across the country.[6]

Tournaments and teams

The Shakey's Super League is composed on two collegiate tournaments as well as one high school tournament.

National Invitationals

The National Invitationals is the SSL's national collegiate tournament. Teams qualify for the tournament by finishing in a qualifying position within their association or regional qualifier.

Collegiate Pre-Season Tournament

The Collegiate Pre-Season Tournament is a preseason tournament that is contested by teams from the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), similar to the Filoil EcoOil Preseason Cup in basketball.[7][8]
